Upcoming training:
A training course : POULTRY KEEPING FOR BEGINNERS
Date: Friday 27th June
10:00am – 4:30pm
Held at our farm near Okehampton, Devon, only 15 minutes off the A30
Cost: £35 per person, children £25
Want to keep chicken but don’t know where to get started, then why not come along?
Bring your questions and join other like-minded people for a fun & informative day
The event will include both practical ‘hands-on’ sessions and theory and will look at:
- Regulations
- Housing and runs
- Choosing a chicken breed
- Where to buy birds & what to look for
- Feeding and watering
- Daily & seasonal management & care
- Eggs
- Hatching and rearing chicks
- Common poultry problems
Tea, coffee, cake and biscuits provided; please bring a packed lunch, notebook and clean outdoor clothing

We will acknowledge your booking upon receipt and send directions to find us, and look forward to seeing you on the day.

Rams went in to the ewes at the end of the month (lucky boys...)
November
'Betty' due to farrow around 20th with her 2nd litter of pedigree Large Black piglets
12th - new to the farm - our first group of Kerry Hill ewes arrive
24th 'Poultry Keeping for Beginners' training course for the Devon Association of Smallholders
25th 'Tractor and Machinery Maintenance' training course for the Devon Association of Smallholders
December
6th 10:30-12:30 Farm Walk looking at resource protection, soils and nutrients with particular emphasis on protecting the river environment (free but please register your intent to come so we know how many pasties to order...!)
Mid-month we will be collecting pork from the butcher - call/email to let us know if you want a joint reserved...
'Belinda' our new pedigree gilt will go to meet Percy, our boar, for the first time
January 2008
Mid month, 'Betty's' Large Black weaners will be weaned and available for sale
The incubators will be cranked up for the new year to start hatching
26th 'Bea' due to farrow with her 2nd litter
Towards the end of the month we will be collecting our bacon and sausages back from the butcher - do book in advance as we sold out straight away last time...
February
The Kerry's are due to lamb from mid February onwards...
March
more lambs...
'Betty's' piglets due to be weaned towards the end of the month and will be available for sale
April
The main flock of Balwens are due to start lambing
May
Hopefully the lambing will have ended... (and normal sleep patterns resumed)
