Water Voles

Water voles
The farm has in the past been involved in assisting the plight of the endangered water vole; these small native mammals are believed to be extinct in Devon and Cornwall, largely owing to predation by American mink and loss of suitable waterside habitats through overgrazing by livestock. Throughout the rest of the country they occupy only 5% of their former range and are in danger of becoming extinct in our lifetime if action is not taken soon. In conjunction with the Derek Gow Consultancy, we rear and breed water voles in large pens for release in conservation projects elsewhere around the country.
