Rare Breeds Survival Trust

The Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST)

Our family has supported the Rare Breeds Survival Trust for many years as we believe it is vital that the gene pool for our native farm animals be protected in this age of ever increasing commercialisation of agriculture.

The RBST is the leading conservation charity working to restore Britain ’s native livestock breeds.  Their work is funded entirely by membership subscriptions, donations and legacies. In the twentieth century, over 20 native breeds of farm livestock became extinct and the Trust's work since its formation in 1973 has ensured that no more breeds have been lost.

The government has finally recognised the importance of this genetic resource and recently announced a ‘UK National Action Plan on Farm Animal Genetic Resources’. We shall wait to see where it takes us…
